The Country Round

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Orlain is a village in the County of Tresques in the Duchy of Mescony, one of the many fiefdoms of the Kingdom of Cormont. Tresques is amongst the southeastmost counties in Cormont, and its eastern border is demarcated by the course of the river Legier. The village of Orlain itself sits half a mile from the bank of the Legier and thus, the lands about Orlain are very fertile, and crop yields are good. However, being so close to the river Legier also means close proximity to wetlands, and a vast swamp known as the Malvange.

To the west of Mescony is the Duchy of Cernay. To the north is the Grand-Duchy of Brigandy. Northwest of Brigandy is the region of Louverne, wherein the city of Salenne is located. Salenne is the largest city in Cormont, and is the seat of Phelipe IV of House Paquerette, King of Cormont. To the west of Louverne is the Duchy of Denvy, a semi-autonomous region home to the Devan people, a bellicose ethnic minority unrelated to the Neran majority who populate Cormont. To the south of the Kingdom of Cormont is the Nespera peninsula, divided into the kingdoms of Alorra, Narba, Dencia, Matturia, and Cibarga. To the east and south of Cormont is the land of Oscany. Cormont, the Nesperan kingdoms, and Oscany are all successor states of the old Neran Empire.

The dominant religion of Cormont and the surrounding countries is Cerdonism; a montheistic religion which worships the god Jove and venerates the saints and prophets thereof. The head of the Cerdonite Church is the Pontiff. Elves also worship Jove, but their religion differs from Cerdonism in many ways. Dwarves practice their own esoteric religion entirely unrelated to that of Men or Elves.
