Gleek
A game for three to six players.
The goal is to have the highest value of cards.
DEALING: Everyone is dealt four cards.
TRADING: During this stage, a player may exchange a card in his hand for a card in the deck. He may do this no more than twice, and must pay a penny for each exchange. His dealt cards are placed in a discard pile.
BETTING: Bets are placed. Go around, raising 1 penny at a time, until no one raises.
SHOWING: Everyone reveals his hand. The one with the best hand wins.
MOURNIVAL: Four-of-a-kind of face cards or aces, other suits are not counted.
GLEEK: Three-of-a-kind of face cards or aces.
DEMI-MOURNIVAL: Two-of-a-kind of face cards or aces.
RUFF: The numerical value of cards of the same suit in a hand.
A mournival of aces is the best possible hand, being worth 48 (11+11+11+11+4).
For the purposes of tallying the value of hands, the numerical value of face cards is treated as ten, the value of an ace is eleven. However, the value of a set of face cards or aces is equal to the value of the cards plus the number thereof. Thus, a hand with two kings is worth 22 (10+10+2 ).
